Come join us outside of Sunday worship
While going to church on Sunday is great, we also host a lot of activities besides our 9:45 service. From Wednesday Word to Sunday school to activities for the kids. Filling your spirit and connecting with God is the perfect way to nurture your faith and we've got that in strides.
Evening Bible Study
On Wednesdays at 6:00 pm come join us at Holy Grounds Coffee behind the Sanctuary for a small group bible study. This bible study happens weekly, and is always willing to accept new members, even infrequent ones. So don't worry if you have a turbulent schedule.
BYKOTA Sunday school class
(Be Ye Kind One To Another)
This class of "Young adult plus some years" meet in person in Room 105 in the CLC Building from 11:00 – 11:45 am – after church. Several of our members are unable to come to church but are able to participate in the Sunday School Class through the BYKOTA Church Conference Number. We tell people to call in 5 minutes before 11:00 am to connect with the class by using the following numbers: First dial – 1-267-930-4000 Second dial – 457-973-303# Be sure to put the pound sign (#) after 2nd Number. The voice you hear is a recording, so dial in any time. BYKOTA Sunday School Class was organized soon after St. John’s became a part of the Florida Conference of the Methodist Church back in the 1960’s. At that time, it was the Young Adult Sunday School Class. We still say we are the Young Adult Class – plus a few years! Many of our class members have belonged to the church and the class for 40 to 50 years. Our class members Jane Wagner and Pat Shell are Charters Members of the Church. It was Jane’s parents who opened their home for the organizational meetings held to help the church get started. Members of the class have always been involved in the leadership of the church and in its mission work both locally and internationally. Several class members have been on mission trips to Haiti, Costa Rica, and other places locally in the United States through the NOMADS Project. At present the class supports a young girl in India through the mission efforts of World’s Children. In addition, we locally support Angel’s Care, Project Love, and Casa Vida – a UM Mission Church in the Wahneta area of Winter Haven, FL. Through the years the class has had many wonderful teachers, such as Tom Wells, Jim Travis, Dick Sargent, Vernon Shell, and others. At present, Eve Ridgeway and Kitty Walker are co-teachers for the class. The curriculum used for the class is the Adult Bible Studies Series from Cokesbury – the United Methodist Publishing House. At present, we are studying a Unit entitled “Inspired by God” which includes lessons from both the Old and New Testament.
LOGOS Sunday school class
(Love Only God Our Savior)
LOGOS is an adult Sunday school class that meets at 8:30 on Sundays prior to worship. LOGOS was formed out of BYKOTA when attendance became too large for one class. It has been meeting for over 40 years. The name for the class was a nod to the first teacher of the class who was Greek. LOGOS is Greek for "the word" and appears 330 times in the New Testament. We are mainly in the 60 to 90s age range but all are welcome. We love each other, and we love our Lord. We study biblical materials, mostly videos and books. We support many mission based projects including: the St John's Preschool, the local elementary school teachers, the Project Love Turkey and Ham projects at Thanksgiving and Christmas, we have supported Project Love efforts to help needy seniors with Christmas presents and Senior bags for over 10 years. We collect an offering to give in the heart of "The Christmas Jar" book every year. We support our own Wednesday night program with helping provide dinners, support by serving our Vacation Bible School, the pumpkin patch and other needs as they arise. We occasionally have parties or outings for class fellowship. In the past these have ranged from as simple as dinners to as extravagant as a cruise. If you are looking for a caring place to belong join us on the lower level of the CLC in room 108/109, Sunday mornings. Kim Eickelschulte is the current teacher for the class.
